ALL USERS: With the new Responsive and Accessible Design introduced with the recent upgrade, when users log in to Blackboard Learn on a mobile device or tablet, or on a desktop machine where the browser size or screen resolution is reduced, screen elements such as the course menu and control panel compress or change position so they stay visible. As the screen gets smaller, modules and tool tiles stack so the user still has access to them at their fingertips. Instructors will not be able modify the course menu color scheme, as it are set to meet contrast and readability standards for accessibility for all users.
ALL: The latest upgrade of Blackboard that went live Saturday morning June 9 introduces several exciting new features: a tool for recording attendance, enhanced grade center design, and more responsive and accessible design overall. Learn more here.

Uploading Files to Bb with the Safari Browser: An issue has been identified with uploading files to Blackboard using the latest versions of Safari. Should you encounter this problem, please use a different browser until Blackboard fixes it.
STUDENTS: Don't think of Blackboard as a storage device. Once your Princeton netID account has been closed, you will only have access to Blackboard as a "Guest," meaning you will be able to view little more than syllabi and course descriptions. Unfortunately, there is no way to mass package files from Blackboard to take with you. You will have submitted files from your computer to Blackboard, so make sure that you are backing up your computer and saving your intellectual property in a place where you can reference them later.
Blackboard Instructor is the initial version of a mobile application that allows you to preview course items, assignments, and tests; participate in discussions; send announcement; and interact with your class in Blackboard Collaborate (web conferencing). More functionality to come.

FACULTY/STAFF: The National Center on Disability and Access to Education has available one-page accessibility resources, or "cheatsheets," that have been developed to assist anyone who is creating accessible content. These free resources cater to less-technical individuals.
EVERYONE: You can add a photo of yourself to Blackboard that will appear in all your discussion board, blog and journal posts. In the far right of the top frame of Blackboard, click on your name, then Personal Information. In the page that opens, select Personalize My Settings, then under AVATAR IMAGE, browse your computer, select your photo and click Submit.
FACULTY: A Piazza site can be created by the instructor simply clicking the Piazza link in the Tools area of the Blackboard course site. Piazza is a free online gathering place where students can come together to ask, answer, and explore under the guidance of their instructors.
FACULTY/STAFF: Watch this 1-minute video on how to replace or update a file in Blackboard.
FACULTY/STAFF: Now you can add users to your courses with the Add Misc. User tool found in the course Control Panel under Course Tools. This tool is only for adding staff not eligible to be added through the PeopleSoft Course Update Process (PS CUP), and students who are "sitting in" and will not be officially enrolling in the course, nor adding the course as an auditor, through TigerHub.
FACULTY/STAFF: Be prepared for snow days! Every course site has a Web video conferencing room, listed under Tools as Blackboard Collaborate. This cloud-based platform is designed specifically for education, is simple and intuitive to use, and it opens in your browser, so there is no application to download. Best to familiarize yourself with the tool and have some practice sessions in advance of an emergency, so you and your students are ready to use it come the next big snowfall.

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS: Beginning May 8, undergraduate students (except the Class of 2017) will begin using Duo two-factor authentication to access Blackboard. You may enroll your account and device earlier by going to the Duo Self-Service Portal. EVERYONE: The Blackboard staff wish all a safe and happy winter break / holiday season.
STUDENTS: Please do NOT install the OneClass Chrome Extension. This extension attempts to recruit your fellow students into joining OneClass when you log into Blackboard. It will email other students in the course on your behalf and may cause certain functions within Blackboard to stop working correctly.
FACULTY/STAFF: While editing a course site, or when the semester is over, it is very easy to make it unavailable to students and guests.
FACULYT/STAFF: DELEGATED GRADING ISSUE If you are using Delegated Grading, be aware that due to a bug, students who dropped the course are part of the total count, so it is possible that graders could be assigned dropped students, while some enrolled students may not be assigned to any grader. Please contact us at for a solution.
USE CAUTION REPLYING TO EMAILS: When an email comes from a class list, pay attention to whom your reply is being sent. If you just want the sender to see your response, make sure it is the sender's address, not the list address (nor a "do not reply" address), in the "To" field.
Send Email Advisory: If recipients replied to email sent from within Blackboard using the Send Email tool in recent weeks, the reply would have gone to "firstname.lastname@example.org," rather to the sender. If you were expecting replies and did not get them, this would explain why. The issue was resolved before noon on Sept. 16. We sincerely regret any inconvenience or misunderstandings this may have caused.
(Note: this DID NOT EFFECT the the course listserv addresses, such as ENG101_F2015@princeton.edu.)

We apologize for the inconvenience. We understand how some menus reverted, and it should not happen again.

Access points to critical academic information are organized in one place to provide a consistent, quick, and easy way to find information.
The New Content Editor vastly improves the user experience for adding text and other forms of digital content to Blackboard Learn. Pasting from MS Word is no longer problematic.
